There are many health benefits to maple syrup.

  • Pure maple syrup contains anti-inflammatory properties and more than 50 antioxidants that assist in protecting the body against certain diseases.
  • Newly released research from McGill University in Montreal suggests that concentrated maple syrup extract may actually help fight bacterial infections, potentially reducing the need for antibiotics around the world.  (CBC 2015)

Sugar Substitution:

  • Pure maple syrup can easily be incorporated into recipes where a sweetener is required.  Granulated maple sugar can also be used as a substitute for white or brown sugars.  Try a teaspoon of pure maple syrup in your morning cup of coffee.
  • To substitute in recipes requiring sugar, simply use the same amount of maple syrup as sugar that the recipe calls for and reduce the liquid in the recipe by about half a cup.

How To Include Maple Syrup In Your Diet:

  • Maple syrup is truly delicious and can be added to your diet in so many different ways.  Not only for pancakes, it can be added to beverages such as smoothies or really anywhere a sweet touch is needed.
  • Although delicious and healthier than other sugars, keep in mind that maple syrup is still a source of sugar so should be used in moderation.  It doesn’t take much to get the wonderful flavor, and health benefits, and remember to use only pure natural maple syrup.
